Framework Design Template: Service Description

Black box description of what a service does.

Abstract description (no technologies, protocols, etc) of what

- is needed for systems to provide a specific service
- is provided to service consumers by any system providing the service

It contains:

- Overview of the service functionalities and objectives
- Abstract Interfaces: description of each function
  + Diagrams such as UML sequence diagrams, or SysML sequence diagrams
- Abstract Information Model: high level description with types, attributes and relationships
  + UML Class diagram or SysML Parametric diagram
- Non-functional requirements for the service
  + Example: QoS and reliability targets that must respected
